Halloween

We have had the tradition in the past few years for my parents to come down for Halloween and my birthday. It is really fun for them to be here to see the kids dress up. Mom and Dad really got into the spirit this year-wait and see. I was impressed! The weather was perfect and the moon was almost full. We had a great weekend with Juju and Dab.

Caitlyn was doing her part to get some attention. I think she did a good job. This was earlier in the day on Halloween. My mom made Gumbo that evening before we went trick or treating. I wonder if I could convince her to make that a tradition as well.

So here we have the crew. Bumblebee Transformer, Glinda the Good Witch, and Dorothy. We had trouble keeping the crown on Caitlyn (surprise, surprise). I really thought she was going to do it but it lasted only long enough for a couple of pictures.

Caitlyn really acted like she knew what she was doing. She would trot up to the door with the big kids, hold out her hands, and trot back down holding tightly to what she just got. Every now and then she would sneak a bite of it if she could get through the wrapper. We got her a shirt that says, "I am just here for the candy" and that is the truth!

Last but not least-the "peace dudes" as the kids ended up calling them. You can't really see them but Dad had matching pants with his vest. He kept them on for the rest of the evening cause they were pretty comfy. I could not take him seriously for the rest of the night!

Hope you had a fun Halloween. Now what to do with the candy...

Light the Night

Last weekend we participated in Light the Night in honor of Levi Rowland. It was exciting being there and being a part something that has made a difference in someone's life that we really care about. I didn't get many good pictures but I thought these were so cute. It was a fun night.

State Fair

We went to the State Fair a couple of weeks ago. The kids had a great time and were really good. Claire's favorite part of the Fair was when they went to "Little Hands on the Farm." (A hands on activity that takes kids through the chores of farming and end up earning money to buy a treat. It was really cute.) Brandon's favorite part was when he rode the monster trucks. Caitlyn's favorite part was anytime she got to get out of the stroller.

We watched a cow milking. Can you find Claire and Brandon?

My Lego loving kids. See the intense concentration in Brandon. This was also one of their favorite activities.

Happy Fall!!

Notice a common theme here? She loves to smile for the camera. Of course we try to capture it as often as we can...

Our Amazing Colorado Trip

Jeff and I were able to go on our first get away trip ever post-children this past week. We had plans to do a 10 year anniversary trip but then I think we were about to have a baby or something. So, it never happened. A few months ago Jeff asked if I would be interested in going to Colorado to hike. Interested? Are you kidding? That is my kind of trip. We started kind of planning something but were pretty laissez faire about it until this summer. We got excited about the idea of a vacation that both challenged us and relaxed us and it all came together. My parents kept the kids and let us borrow a ton of stuff- a big thanks Mom and Dad!

We hiked 3 days and reached three 14000+ foot summits. We hiked over 25 miles, slept in the back of a truck, ate backpackers food, and even got up at 4 in the morning one day to start hiking. I would say we were challenged and it felt great!! The relaxation came easy cause we were so tired at the end of the day. It also helped that we could see every star in the sky at night.

I posted these pics in reverse chronological order but you will get the idea. There were lots more that I liked but I might try to post them to Facebook.

Arboretum

A few of my favorite pictures from our outing to the Arboretum.
Did you know it is only $1 per person in August?
